The second time I used this product the hot water leaked all out from the bottom. Mind you, not the heater core which still boiled water as quick as the day I got it! That switch, also sits right next to the heating element. Amazon showed it in stock when I had placed my order a while back, and it took the third-party (Polsteins Home & Beyond) over a week to inform me that they did actually not have any in stock. It's hot enough to brew coffee using a Melitta filter cone or a French Press. As fast as the microwave and no problems with beeping over and over again when its through. And it's even better than the original.
My only gripe with it is that it doesn't allow for a taller cup/mug under it, just the average size mug so if you are filling something taller you have to pour it from a measuring cup or something similar. 10 minutes after it would finally boil, I had another 5 minutes of brewing...sigh...so then I tried to remember when I was half way done with the first cup to put the kettle on to boil again...see what I mean? In our case the heat killed the electronic "on" switch.
It heats water faster than the microwave. I returned it, After two months the on button no longer worked. Saves heating a stove burner for a cup or two. I bought one for my Dad too and we both love it. Or you have to tilt the cup to get it in.
There is about 4 1/2 inches of space under the pour spout in which to put a cup or mug, which is plenty of room for the vast majority of cups or mugs.
Plus, it doesn't have that microwaved taste. Now for a cup taller than 4 1/4", it won't slide under. I was hoping Sunbeam would have fixed this problem in the few months I owned the new model, but I see by the date of other consumer reviews posted on Amazon.com that this problem has been going on for a few years. Instead of heating water in a kettle on the stove to make tea, this is much faster. What a hit--they love it! My only change would be to make it a bit taller.
I don't think I will ever buy another Sunbeam product again, this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Perfect size for a single 16.9fl oz bottle of spring water. My daughter and I have tea every morning and it heats up our 2 cups of water very fast. It's alway been a Christmas or Channuka gift for someone on my gift giving list. I am so impressed!
