Over the past couple of years there has been a massive media furore about the BBC moving their operations from London to the brand new, purpose built Media City on Salford Quays, and there have been a lot of arguments surrounding the relocation of their employees. Some are in favour of the move and some are very much against having to relocate their entire life but it doesn't matter as it is going ahead.
As you would expect there are a number of employees who don't want to leave London so are staying down there, but there are still many moving up and they will need to find somewhere to live in the area. Below is a guide to the surrounding area, taking into account different family and lifestyle situations:
Salford Quays itself is the most obvious choice for those who will be living and working up North in the week and returning to families for the weekend, or for young professionals without families. It is a lively area with lots of bars and restaurants and modern apartment blocks. There are also some apartments at Media City itself for a short walk to work.
For those who don't want the high-rise city life but still want a lively atmosphere that can be likened to some London suburbs such as Islington, they can't go far wrong with the Didsbury and Chorlton area. It is not too far from Media City on the tram and it has a very lively community just like Salford Quays, but in a more suburban area.
Those who have families may need to find a quieter area, and this means going a bit further out of town for a more suitable location but there are many areas that are great for family life but still close enough to work. Worsley is the first of these areas, and is not far from Salford at all.
The Altrincham and Hale area is another one that is suitable for families. It's a sought-after area in South Manchester and has enough of a buzz to appeal to young professionals also, meaning it has the best of both worlds. It is also very close to Manchester Airport!
When you've scouted out the areas, you will need to then look at specific houses, work out budgets and hire a conveyancing solicitor.
