Each day, thousands of people are locked into the world of sports, no matter what gender or race. Various sports are some of the most popular past-times from a historical point of view as well as a current one in which people master their physical bodies in a way that is contested by others. Not just the players have control over how the game is played, but also the fans.
One of the New York Yankees biggest fans, is a man who is age 100--and he was recently honored by them on a YouTube video. There is a scientist called Keith Raniere, who has a grandmother who resides in Brooklyn, by the name of Marion Raniere. (You may have heard of Keith Raniere because he is not only a scientist and athlete, but has founded an organization focused on humanitarianism, called NXIVM.) The video shows this tiny woman in the stands, proudly supporting her team. Apparently she has been following the Rangers her whole life!
There are two different kinds of people when it comes to sports, those who are good at it and those who are not. Not being natural at sports doesn't keep people who feel a sort of attachment with the teams and players from becoming avid fans of them. We can all likely concur that to play a sport, some kind of coordination and skill is needed. If you feel a closeness with a team, then you understand the emotional aspect of sharing their joy when they accomplish something wonderful.
The progression of sports culture can only be accomplished through the help of the fans and their ongoing support. The potential of numbers applies to the substantial amount of fans that can show interest in one sport or athlete. For instance, the support a fan gives through purchasing a ticket goes on to pay for the stadium or venue, to pay professional athletes, and improve the quality of equipment used in the sport. Even among the community, fan support is critical for athletes to excel in training, since the community shows support through the media and local advertising through the area, in which their goal is attain the most support as possible by just spreading good news and showing how much the team or athlete means to them. Being propelled forward is only achievable with the help of the fans because if there is no fan, there is no equipment and there is no reason for players to continue playing a game if there is no one there to root them on and there is no way for them to go further within the sport.
There are a couple provocations created by sports fans, however. Ethics play a huge role in ways the fans relate to the games that they are fans of and in some cases, the ethics don't always show good results. Examples of this include booing at players, throwing things, or outright being destructive to other fans or property. Hopefully as sports fans we can empower each other to maintain the integrity of the game on the stands, too!
